- The Kobayashi Maru is a training exercise in the fictional Star Trek universe designed to test the character of Starfleet Academy cadets in a no-win scenario. The Kobayashi Maru test was first depicted in the opening scene of the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and also appears in the 2009 film Star Trek. Screenwriter Jack B. Sowards is credited with inventing the test. Shelley Watson is currently Managing Partner at Wheelwrights, started in 2007 with Chris Dawe, to provide technology services including strategic planning, implementation, and support to business and education clients in Western Washington. An Apple consultant and trainer since 1997, Shelley’s past activities include working on curriculum development teams for Apple, and as an Apple Certified Trainer. Shelley earned her degree in Psychology from the University of California, never realizing it would be perfect for a career in IT.

In this episode, Shelley discuses her recent participation in Cascadia Rising, a Joint FEMA-OEM Catastrophic Earthquake and Tsunami Functional Exercise June 2016. She also discusses the benefits of participating in Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) training.
